Millions of people in this country report to their jobs each day. Most simply want to support themselves and their families by earning a pay check and other job-related benefits. Unfortunately, many people have been hurt or even killed in an industrial accident. There is, however, financial assistance in Illinois in the form of workers’ compensation insurance coverage available to those who suffer from a workplace injury. One out-of-state man will likely qualify for such assistance after he was injured in a dangerous accident while at work.
One morning in October, a man was operating a forklift at European Granite & Marble Group. Reports indicate that the man had just lifted another employee onto a roof with the lift when it collapsed onto the cab, trapping the employee. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene and were eventually able to extricate the man.
He is currently considered stable but critical and remains hospitalized. The exact nature of his injuries, however, are unclear. Reports indicate that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has launched an investigation into the accident.
The man may face extensive hospital bills and a long recovery period as he is treated for his injuries. Some people in Illinois who suffer from a workplace injury are never able to fully recover, preventing them from returning to work in the same capacity, if at all. However, state law requires employers to provide workers’ compensation insurance coverage in the case of such an accident. The insurance can help with medical bills and lost wages. In an effort to ensure that they receive all of the compensation to which they may be entitled, many people have sought assistance from those with knowledge and experience with such cases.
