Accidents can happen at any time in Illinois. Often, they occur regardless of the safety measures in place. Unfortunately, one out-of-state worker has been killed in what has been described as an industrial accident. His family is likely slowly coming to terms with the emotional and financial ramifications of his death.
The accident happened at Syncot Plastics just as one shift was ending and another beginning. The owner reported that employees were cleaning equipment in preparation for the next shift. However, she stresses that workers were only supposed to blow debris out of the machine with an air hose.
However, reports indicate that a 40-year-old man, who had only recently been hired as a full-time employee, went around the conveyor belt of a machine that had a roller bar to feed plastic into the machine. Unfortunately, he became caught in the roller and pulled into the machine. He died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
Workers who are injured in an industrial accident are likely entitled to workers’ compensation, a form of insurance that helps with lost wages and medical costs. In the event of a fatality such as this, the benefits typically extend to dependent family members. They can allow a grieving family to focus on their emotional recovery rather than concerns regarding their financial future.
