3 Common Office Injuries

An office may not seem like the most dangerous place to work. While offices are generally safer than construction sites, office injuries still happen and they are more common than you might think.

If you work in an office, you might be sitting at a desk most of the day while staring at a computer. You might also spend some of your time moving objects, attending meetings or simply walking to and from the building. These tasks may be part of your everyday routine - something you do not think twice about. While they may seem relatively ordinary, they can still pose a danger to your wellbeing. The following are three of the most common types of office injuries:

Falling - This is the most common injury you could face. This can be caused by wet stairs, icy sidewalks, tripping or poor lighting inside or outside the building. Be aware of your surroundings, especially during extreme weather conditions.

Strain - Picking up boxes or moving objects might be part of your job. If that is the case, make sure you are carrying out these tasks properly to avoid injuries such as strain or overextension.

Repetitive motion - Sometimes, injuries are not immediate and can happen over time. These are called repetitive strain injuries (RSI) and are often uncomfortable or may lead to requiring surgery. One of the most common examples is carpal tunnel syndrome. It may be possible to get compensation for these injuries depending on the severity and discomfort.

While working in an office may seem harmless, there are ways that employees can, and sometimes do get injured. Be aware of the small actions you do throughout the day that could cause any kind of harm. Take breaks when needed to help avoid strains that could lead to an injury or stress that might cause you to not pay attention to your surroundings and objects that could potentially cause a fall.
