Most employers make it their priority to ensure employee safety. They educate themselves about suggested safety practices and ensure their equipment is correctly functioning. Additionally, the provide employee training on the safest procedures as well as how to respond in the event of an emergency. However, there are still accidents — even at companies in Illinois who take every safety precaution possible. Unfortunately for the family of one man, a recent workplace accident has resulted in his death.
The accident occurred in the afternoon in late August. The man was standing between two cranes — one was parked and the other was being moved by a second employee. Unfortunately, the moving crane turned too sharply, pinning the man between the two cranes.
Emergency responders were called. Unfortunately, despite the medical care they provided, the man died at the scene of the accident. According to company statements, the company is cooperating with investigations being conducted by the police and the state’s division of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
The company also claims that they are working to support the family of the deceased man. In most states, such as Illinois, laws are in place that require employers to provide their employees with workers’ compensation coverage. Such coverage provides compensation for such expenses as lost wages and is extended to the employee’s dependents in the case of a fatality. Unfortunately, the process can sometimes be complicated and lengthy. Some people entitled to such compensation as a result of a workplace accident seek additional help as they attempt to gain appropriate compensation.
