Workplace accident ends in fatality

There are thousands of workers in Illinois who are dedicated to their jobs. They arrive on time every day and fulfill their job responsibilities to the best of their abilities. Despite their dedication, a workplace accident can occur that can cause serious complications for a worker and his or her loved ones. One out-of-state family is likely trying to put their life back together after a fatal accident took the life of their loved one.

The accident occurred in mid-February. Police reports indicate that a 59-year-old man was working on a elevator at Simplot Soil Builders, a company that providers fertilizer for farmers. Unfortunately, part of the elevator he was standing on apparently had a rusted leg.

When the leg gave out, the elevator crashed to the roof. The worker died as a result of the collapse. One police officer says that the man’s death is believed to have been accidental. No other injuries were reported.

The family of this man is likely still coming to terms with the news of his death while dealing with the financial consequences of the accident, including loss of wages and funeral expenses. Fortunately, all states, including Illinois, require employers to provide workers’ compensation insurance coverage to their employees to protect them in the event of a workplace accident. The benefits typically extend to dependent family members if the accident results in a fatality. Because of these state regulated insurance benefits, family members can focus on their emotional recovery. In order to seek all of the compensation to which they may be entitled, many people have sought the help of someone with experience concerning the claims process.
